Day 1: Harare

Welcome to Zimbabwe! It's time to get your safari started and after some minor introductory formalities, we'll get you out there on this wonderful safari journey of discovery. You will enjoy getting a taste of urban southern African life when you spend time in Harare. It's an engaging city and one of the most pleasant cities anywhere in southern Africa, with museums, galleries, and even a few public parklands. Harare is also known for its excellent and varied dining scenes. Stay at Bronte Garden Hotel in Harare and take advantage of the facilities and location while you're here.

Activity Day 1

  • You will be met in Harare International Airport by your Tour Guide from our company. They will greet you and get you ready to begin your trip with us.

Day 2: Nyanga National Park

The views you can enjoy at Nyanga National Park are some of the best anywhere in Zimbabwe, and it's not hard to see why. Strung out across a particularly scenic corner of the country's Eastern Highlands, the park is home to Mt Nyangani, the highest mountain (2592m, or 8504ft) in Zimbabwe, and the views are just as good from World's View atop the Troutbeck Massif. As part of any visit here, you can also look forward to historical ruins, a museum dedicated to Cecil Rhodes, and the 772m Mtarazi Falls, which is the second-highest waterfall in Africa, around 650m higher than Victoria Falls. There aren't many animals here, but you might see samango monkeys and antelopes.

There's no more characterful base for exploring Zimbabwe's scenic Eastern Highlands than Troutbeck Resort. Founded in 1947 at a crisp altitude of 2,200m close to Nyanga National Park, the resort occupies large green grounds surrounded by pine-swathed slopes, a pair of pretty lakes, and a superb 18-hole golf course. It's a setting reminiscent of Scotland, and the restaurant and bar, complete with wood panels and blazing, exude a strong period feel.

Activities Day 2

Early Morning

  • Transfer by Road, Bronte Garden Hotel to Troutbeck Resort

Afternoon

  • The SkyWalk is truly unique, a first for Zimbabwe and the world. The 2 suspension bridges are designed to look like vines above the falls allowing for the first time a full panoramic view of the Mutarazi Falls and its surroundings. The SkyWalk consists of two bridges – the one 30m that take you over the lip of the Falls and the other 90m that is above the entire Falls.

This park contains an exceptional cultural and spiritual significance to the indigenous people populating this region. The reserve contains the highest population of leopards and black eagles in the world, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled for these magnificent animals. The park received recognition as a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site in 2003 and includes an intensive protection zone that is home to both black and white rhinoceros. It is named after the Ndebele word “Matobo “, which means “bald heads” and refers to the rounded granite hills that surround it. You will return to Bulawayo and stay for the night.

Day 7: Khami Ruins

Khami Ruins are dominated by a series of terraced stone ruins. The imposing front façade marked the main entrance. Nearby are the Cross Ruin with its mysterious stone Dominican Cross and the Northern Platform once used to process gold. The Precipice Ruin was a ritual centre that has the longest decorated stonewall of its kind. The nearby Passage Ruin consists of  two adjoining semicircular platforms accessed by a narrow passageway. Like many of the other smaller platforms, it is likely that it was once occupied by one of the elite officials of the state. You are able to have a guided tour around the site on several paths taking in the site’s unique cultural and natural heritage. It makes a perfect day out for gaining a sense of Zimbabwean history.

Day 8: Hwange National Park

You'll visit Hwange National Park, which is one of the best places to see wildlife anywhere in southern Africa. This massive park offers a good mix of quiet trails and an excellent safari infrastructure. It is also a fantastic place to look for predators, with lion, African wild dog and cheetah all being relatively common. The elephant concentrations can be mindboggling, especially in the Dry season. The rest of the Big Five are present here too. Hwange lies in western Zimbabwe, bordering Botswana, at the eastern edge of the critically important Kavango–Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area, which stretches across five countries.

Bordering Hwange National Park and very close to the main entrance gate, Hwange Safari Lodge has good views, and elephants and other animals pass through on a daily basis. Natural light fills the modern rooms and there are many ways to relax at the lodge, which has a swimming pool, restaurant, bar and sweeping grounds.

The wall of water, known here as Mosi-oa-Tunya (the ‘smoke that thunders’), is a stunning, mesmerizing view. Tucked away in a quiet corner of busy Victoria Falls town, Bayete Guest Lodge is a delightful place to stay. The rooms are stylish and sophisticated, and in the pretty, tree-filled grounds, there's a swimming pool, as well as a lounge and dining area. Guests are welcomed on board with a refresher towel and chilled flute of sparkling wine before they settle down on the top floor of the vessel for a sunset cruise before dinner.
  • Amuse bouche and snack platters are served while the sun sinks below the shimmering surface of the Zambezi. A barman and three intuitive waiters anticipate guests’ needs, serving a selection of lively cocktails and imported premium spirits throughout their journey. The plush, cushioned furniture and high vantage point on the upper deck provide the ideal space to watch one of Victoria Falls famous sunsets.
  • After the sun has sunk below the river line, dinner is served on the lower deck of the vessel, exemplifying the hallmarks of exquisite cuisine prepared on board by two Chefs. The rich aroma of locally sourced fresh ingredients wafts around diners as the dishes are plated. Time seems to stand still as the boat gently glides along to the sound of water lapping up against her sides. Far removed from the glare of city lights and noise, the moon and stars shine brightly in the sky and an atmosphere of mystery and romance envelopes the evening’s experience.

Welcome to Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, one of Botswana's least-visited yet most surprising national parks. From the banks of the often-dry Boteti River in the park's west to the vast salt pans out in the east, the park is filled with far more wildlife than you might expect in such a dry part of the country. Watch for lions, brown hyenas, meerkats, and the park is the scene for an important annual zebra migration.
