Dusty Road Dinner & Lunch

In Victoria Falls

Don’t miss

Activity Description

Deep in the heart of the Chinotimba township (about 2kms from Vic Falls town centre) is a dining experience like no other. Dusty Road is located in the buzzing township and aims to introduce the international tourist to a bit of traditional cuisine and atmosphere. You really should give this a try, but to get there, you will need to take a taxi, as they do not provide transfers.

On arrival, you will see a big sign and a few peculiar trinkets illustrative of African, certainly Zimbabwean, way of life. Through the gate, you are greeted with a very colorful blend of everyday objects – black pots, hand-made brazier, chickens, traffic signs, dishes, etc. Walking further in and through to the reception area, there are lots of colors and old household items to brighten your senses and bring feelings of nostalgia for the good old days.

The tables are set under welcome shade from the trees. The furniture and décor is mostly up-cycled from old unconventional items such as doors, cable reels, tins, pots, and so much more, brought to life with various finishing (if any) and colorful chitenge and other fabrics. This gives the place a rustic and interesting atmosphere. You will also notice a few vegetable patches, common in most Zimbabwean homes.

The dishes at Dusty Road are cooked on an open fire, the traditional way. Ingredients are indigenous and mostly what you would find in Zimbabwean kitchens. The desserts, however, have been given a bit more pizzazz with some more wild ingredients which you may not typically have in a modern Zimbabwean household, but all still found in Zimbabwe.

Activity Description

THE BOMA – PLACE OF EATING

This is not just another ethnic restaurant, but a unique cultural experience. Excellent cuisine, including a variety of game meats and traditional Zimbabwean dishes, is accompanied by entertainment throughout your meal from traditional dancers, the Sangoma (story teller) and a local fortune teller who is available for fortune telling. The Boma is open for dinner from 7.00pm until late 365 days of the year.

The Boma nestles in a Gusu Forest and is partly open to the spectacular African night skies. A feast of nightly entertainment incorporates Shangaan dancers and singers and a local fortune teller. Guests are welcomed with a traditional greeting in Shona and Ndebele, the local languages. They are invited to take part in a hand washing ceremony before sampling traditional beer and snacks, as a prelude to dinner.

After dinner, guests are invited to wile away the evening with the restaurant’s very own Sangoma – a traditional storyteller to learn more about the country’s folklore, culture, and heritage.

Activity Description

Victoria Falls will give you life-changing experiences, staggering views and lifelong memories. But when you travel with Exec Africa, you have the opportunity to give something back to the local community in our special town. Our Pay It Forward Initiative inspires positive action and allows guests to enrich their journey while making a positive impact. From a list of registered charitable organizations, guests will select a cause they would like to support. Armed with a list of ‘wishes’, the guests will be transported by a driver to various markets in the area. As they explore the stalls and meet the vendors, they will gather the items on the list and connect with local people, discover hidden gems in the less-visited parts of town, and immerse themselves in a different style of grocery shopping.

Guests will then visit their selected organization to deliver the goods and meet the people they would have helped. This experience digs beneath Victoria Falls’ surface to give guests a unique insight into the town while empowering those in need.

When we travel with purpose, we can make a meaningful difference to our lives and the local communities’ lives. Guests will take unforgettable memories home with them, while also leaving something good behind.

Activity Description

Our Home Hosted meals provide valuable income to local providers. This initiative aims to empower local people by providing income and allowing them to have a fun interaction with visitors while teaching them about local culture and traditions. Families welcome visitors into their homes for a fee and provide them with a traditional meal. This has proved highly successful and greatly beneficial to the individuals involved.

Experience the true flavours of Victoria Falls with a “home dinner”. Exec Africa will collect guests at their hotels or B&B in Victoria Falls Town. A short transfer takes you to the Chinotimba High Density suburb. Guests will be hosted by a local family in their residence and served a traditional African home made lunch.

A great experience for children or teens who will enjoy meeting other children and learn about other cultures.

Expect an authentic home cooked meal- there will be options you are familiar with that are commonly eaten in Zimbabwe such as beef stew as well as some local dishes that may be new to you. You do not have to try these if you are wary but it is great fun if you do.
